    General Admission Point Score (APS)
The University of Fort Hare uses an APS system based on your National Senior Certificate (NSC) results. Points are allocated per subject (levels 1-7), and you must meet the minimum APS for your chosen program.

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree Admission (National Senior Certificate):

    • Pass the NSC with a minimum of 30% in the language of learning and teaching at UFH (English), coupled with an achievement rating of 3 (40-49%) or better in four recognized 20-credit NSC subjects.
    • Please Note: This is the university’s minimum. Individual programs have significantly higher and specific requirements, detailed below.

    Faculty-Specific Undergraduate Requirements (2026 Guide):

    • Health Sciences:
      • Bachelor of Nursing & BSc Speech-Language Therapy: Minimum APS of 34. Compulsory NSC subjects: Mathematics, Physical Science, and Life Sciences, all at Level 4 (50-59%) or above. English Home Language Level 4 or English First Additional Language Level 5.
      • B Health in Human Movement Science: Minimum APS of 30. Compulsory NSC subjects: Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy, and Life Sciences.
    • Law (LLB):
      • Minimum APS of 36. English at Level 5 (60-69%) or above is strongly recommended due to the text-intensive nature of the degree.
    • Management & Commerce (e.g., BCom):
      • Minimum APS typically ranges from 30-34. Mathematics is a compulsory requirement for most programs (especially Accounting, Economics, Information Systems) at Level 4 or higher. Mathematical Literacy may be accepted for some Business Management or Public Administration streams, but Mathematics is preferred.
    • Science & Agriculture:
      • Minimum APS typically 30-33. Compulsory NSC subjects: Mathematics and Physical Science, often at Level 4 or 5, depending on the program (e.g., Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science require strong science passes). Life Sciences is required for Agricultural and Biological Science programs.
    • Social Sciences & Humanities:
      • Minimum APS typically 28-30. Specific subjects may be recommended (e.g., History for a BA History, Visual Arts for Fine Art) but are not always compulsory. A good pass in English is essential.

Additional Critical Requirements for 2026 Applicants:

    1. Check the Official Prospectus: The definitive source for 2026 requirements will be the university’s official prospectus, released on their website.
    2. Application Deadlines: UFH applications typically open in April and close by September 30th for most undergraduate programs. Health Sciences often have earlier deadlines.
    3. Supporting Documents: Certified copies of your NSC certificate/statement of results, ID document, and proof of application fee payment are mandatory.
    4. Selection Procedures: Many programs, especially in Health Sciences, Law, and Science, are highly competitive and use additional criteria like academic merit beyond the minimums.

Prospective students are encouraged to explore the university’s website for detailed faculty brochures, department contacts, and the most up-to-date fee structures for 2026. Start your journey at this historic institution by preparing thoroughly and applying on time.
