    About AECI Limited Chemical Process Operator Learnership 2026

    AECI Limited, a leading African chemical explosives and specialty chemicals group, is inviting applications for its Chemical Process Operator Learnership Programme for the 2026 intake. This structured training initiative is designed to equip successful candidates with the competencies required to operate chemical plant machinery safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with industry regulations.

    The learnership is based in Modderfontein, Gauteng, and participants will work alongside qualified Plant Operators and Production Team Leaders. Over the course of the programme, learners will progress from supervised assistance to independent plant operation, gaining real-world experience in a high-risk, high-reward environment.

    Requirements for Application

    To be considered for this prestigious learnership, applicants must satisfy all the following criteria.

    • You must have Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics and Physical Science as passed subjects
    • You must be between 18 and 25 years old
    • You must hold a valid forklift driver’s licence
    • Be medically fit to operate a forklift
    • Maintain ongoing medical fitness to ensure your licence remains renewable
    • Be willing to undergo additional forklift operation training as required
    • Data entry
    • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel)

    What You Will Do During the Learnership

    This is not a classroom-only programme. Successful candidates will be immersed in the daily realities of chemical plant operations. Your responsibilities will include the following.

    Chemical Process Training

    • Complete NQF Level 2 unit standards in chemical process operation training
    • Operate plant equipment under qualified supervision, progressing to independent operation once declared competent 

    Handling Materials and Containers

    You will assist with:

    • Filling and emptying bags, drums, and bulk containers
    • Loading and offloading bulk bags and raw materials
    • Loading and offloading bulk liquid chemicals

    Plant Support and Housekeeping

    • Maintain cleanliness and organisation across all plant areas
    • Support plant operations under the guidance of a qualified operator

    Documentation and Accuracy

    • Complete production and process documents accurately
    • Record all information correctly and timeously

    Working Safely in High-Risk Areas

    Due to the nature of chemical processing, you may be required to work:

    • At heights
    • In confined spaces

    Consequently, you must maintain medical fitness for work in a chemical plant environment.

    You must be willing to:

    • Work shifts
    • Work overtime when required
    • Follow all reasonable instructions from the Production Team Leader

    You are expected to uphold all internal and external:

    • Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) guidelines
    • Process Safety Management (PSM) guidelines

    Adherence to these standards is non-negotiable in a chemical processing environment
