    What the Tharisa Bursary 2026 Covers

    One of the biggest concerns for any university student is funding. The Tharisa Minerals bursary is designed to remove financial barriers so you can focus on your studies. Successful applicants for the Tharisa Bursary 2026 can expect coverage that typically includes :

    • Full Tuition Fees: Your academic fees are taken care of.
    • Registration Fees: The cost to secure your place at university.
    • Accommodation: Whether you live in a residence or a private digs, your housing is covered.
    • Study Materials: Prescribed textbooks and other necessary academic resources.
    • Monthly Living Allowance: A stipend to help with day-to-day expenses (usually starting from the first semester).

    In return for this investment, bursary recipients are usually required to participate in vacation work at the mine at the end of each academic year. After graduation, you will join the company as a graduate intern for at least one year, giving you invaluable on-the-job experience.

    Who Qualifies? (Eligibility Criteria)

    To be considered for the Tharisa Minerals bursary requirements, you must meet the following minimum criteria. Make sure you check these boxes before applying:

    • South African Citizenship: This bursary is only open to South African citizens.
    • Matric Results: You must have a National Senior Certificate with a minimum of 60% in Mathematics and 60% in Physical Science. These subjects are non-negotiable for technical fields.
    • Tertiary Acceptance: You must be registered or have proof of acceptance to study at a recognized and accredited South African tertiary institution in one of the fields listed above.
    • Academic Record: If you are a current university student, you need to submit a full academic record/transcript.
    • Employment Status: You cannot be a recipient of any other bursary or sponsorship scheme.
    • Preference: Preference is often given to applicants from local communities or labour-sending areas (such as the North West Province) and to students with disabilities, in line with Employment Equity requirements

    • Certified Matric certificate: Or latest Grade 12 results.

    • Proof of acceptance/registration: An official letter from your university.
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV): Keep it updated with your contact details, academic history, and any part-time work or leadership roles.
    • Recent photo: Head and shoulders (sometimes required for student profiles)
