How to Check Your UNISA Bursary Status Online for 2026

Unlike NSFAS funding (which is managed through a separate portal), UNISA-administered bursaries—including the Postgraduate Bursary for Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral students—communicate outcomes exclusively through your UNISA student account

Step 1: Log in to myUnisa

Your journey starts at the official myUnisa portal. This is the only platform where official UNISA bursary application status 2026 information is published.

Visit myunisa Account and enter your details to access the account, make sure you put your details

Step 2: Navigate to the Student Funding Section

    Once logged in:

    • Look for the “Student Funding” or “Bursaries & Loans” tab
    • Select “Bursary Applications” or “View Application Status”

If you applied for the UNISA Postgraduate Bursary (Honours, Master’s, or Doctoral), your application status will be displayed here.

Step 3: Track NSFAS Funding Separately

If you applied for NSFAS funding through UNISA, the process differs:

    1. Log in to the NSFAS portal
    2. Track your status under “Track Funding Progress”
    3. UNISA will send an SMS once your registration is activated based on NSFAS approval

UNISA Bursary Status Meanings Explained (2026)

When you finally access your UNISA student funding status check, you will likely see one of these statuses. Here is exactly what they mean—and what to do next.

    Approved

What it means: Congratulations. You have been awarded funding for 2026.
    What to do immediately:

    • Check your myLife email for the bursary contract
    • Sign and return the contract before the deadline
    • If you paid your own registration fees, submit your banking details via the secure link provided
    • Expect refund processing to take 15–21 working days

Pending / In Progress / Under Review

What it means: Your application is still being assessed. This is not a rejection.
    What to do immediately:

    • Continue checking your status weekly
    • Ensure your supervisor (postgraduate applicants) has submitted your supporting documents
    • Do not register for modules you cannot afford while waiting—consider temporary registration if eligible

    Provisionally Funded (NSFAS Only)

What it means: NSFAS has approved you in principle, but UNISA must verify your registration and qualification eligibility .
    What to do immediately:

    • Ensure you are registered for a funded qualification (first undergraduate degree only)
    • Check that your registration data has been sent to NSFAS
    • If you registered for a non-funded programme, your funding will NOT transfer to 2026—you must reapply

    Rejected / Unsuccessful

What it means: Your application was not approved.
Do not panic. Rejection does not always mean “no funding forever.” Read the reason carefully.

    You CAN appeal if:

    • You have outstanding results that were not considered
    • Your supporting documents were missing but you have them now
    • You believe the rejection reason contradicts your actual status

    You CANNOT appeal if:

    • Funds were insufficient (most common reason)
    • You were rejected due to unsatisfactory academic performance
    • You have already received full funding for the maximum period

What to Do If Your UNISA Bursary Is Approved

    1. Sign and return your contract immediately. Deadlines are strictly enforced.
    2. Submit banking details via the official secure link only.
    3. Keep proof of payment if you registered yourself—you qualify for a refund.
    4. Register for the correct modules. Funding only covers your specific approved qualification

Check your UNISA bursary status today. The answer you’re waiting for might already be there.
