    FASSET 2026 Bursary Programme

FASSET Bursary FASSET Bursary 2026: Funding Opportunity for South Africa’s High-Achieving Matric Students
    FASSET Bursary 2026

The FASSET Bursary Programme is a comprehensive funding initiative aimed at developing high-quality financial and accounting skills within South Africa. Unlike general bursaries that focus solely on financial need, the FASSET programme places a heavy emphasis on academic excellence and raw potential.

For the 2026 academic year, FASSET is specifically targeting learners who have just completed their National Senior Certificate (NSC) with outstanding results. The goal is simple: identify future industry leaders and equip them with the resources they need to qualify as Chartered Accountants, Financial Managers, and Auditors.

Why the Programme Targets Top Matric Achievers

    Merit-Based Selection

In a country with thousands of university applications each year, academic performance remains one of the most reliable indicators of future success in higher education. The FASSET bursary uses Matric achievement as a primary benchmark, ensuring that support is awarded transparently and fairly to those who have demonstrated the work ethic required to survive demanding commerce degrees.

    Building a Skilled Future Workforce

South Africa’s finance and accounting sectors are the engine rooms of the economy. These sectors require highly trained, globally competitive professionals. By supporting top achievers immediately after high school, the programme strengthens the pipeline of future Chartered Accountants (CAs), financial analysts, auditors, and tax practitioners who will go on to serve in the Big Four firms, government institutions, and corporate South Africa.

    Reducing Financial Barriers

It is a tragic irony that many top-performing learners come from under-resourced backgrounds. Even with university admission secured, fees often force students to defer their studies. This bursary helps ensure that academic excellence is not wasted due to a lack of funding, allowing students to focus entirely on their degrees rather than worrying about how to pay for them.

    FASSET Bursary 2026 Qualification

To be considered for the 2026 intake, applicants must meet the following criteria:

    • South African citizenship (valid ID document required).
    • Exceptional Matric results (top academic performance, specifically with high marks in Mathematics and Accounting/Economics where applicable).
    • Acceptance or firm intention to study at a recognised and accredited South African public university or university of technology.
    • Planned studies in the specific finance-related fields listed below.
    • Strong academic discipline and commitment (this is a high-performance programme).

    Programmes Required

FASSET funding is not available for general degrees. Your course of study must fall directly under the finance and accounting services umbrella. Approved fields include:

    • Accounting (CA Stream / General Accounting)
    • Auditing
    • Financial Management
    • Taxation
    • Economics
    • Investment and Risk Management

Note: Students pursuing a Chartered Accountant (CA) route are often given priority due to the scarce skill nature of the profession.

    What the Bursary Covers

FASSET aims to remove the financial obstacles that often derail promising students. The bursary typically covers:

    • Tuition fees: Full coverage of annual registration and tuition as billed by the university.
    • Prescribed textbooks and academic materials: Ensuring students have the latest resources.
    • Registration costs: Once-off fees required to secure a place at the institution.

    Required Documents

Ensure you have the following documents scanned and ready before starting your application. Incomplete applications are often automatically disqualified.

    1. Certified copy of South African ID (not older than 3 months).
    2. Final Matric Results (June results or final NSC results depending on application timing).
    3. Proof of university admission (provisional or formal acceptance letter from the institution).
    4. Academic records (if currently in a bridging course or previous tertiary attempt; for new Matrics, this is your Matric certificate).

How to Apply for FASSET Bursary 2026

The application process for the FASSET Bursary is managed exclusively through their official online portal. Unfortunately, direct walk-ins or emailed applications are not accepted.

    Deadline of Application

Time is of the essence. The FASSET selection committee reviews applications on a rolling basis, but all submissions must be received before the final cut-off.

    Deadline: 28 February 2026 at 23:59

Late applications will not be considered under any circumstances. Mark your calendar and submit your application well in advance to avoid technical issues on the closing date.
